Finally, here is a game that is willing to teach a player why this long-running genre is held in such high regard. Perhaps this is why Omega Force’s monster battler is so welcoming to newcomers. Inevitably these materials may feel lesser than the whole from which they were harvested, but they are worn proudly and with confidence nevertheless.īesides, as a rare challenger to Monster Hunter, Wild Hearts is clearly aware of the difficulties involved in trying to pull off something new. Forget sleeves, Wild Hearts wears its inspirations as a complete set of clothing crafted from the bones, fur, and teeth of Capcom’s increasingly popular series. After all, Monster Hunter is a series about an unknown newcomer toppling ancient beasts, chopping up their best bits to create weapons and armour. There’s a touch of poetry to the way Wild Hearts carves so liberally from Monster Hunter. In its later levels, Sayonara Wild Hearts expands its visual style to more extravagant sights, but never borders on being too much.Irritating performance issues on PC aside, Wild Hearts is an impressive Monster Hunter clone that brings a lot of fresh ideas to the table. Built heavily around a combination of purples and whites, each level keeps a degree of continuity while also providing a unique visual touch. Sporting a minimalist art style, Sayonara Wild Hearts uses blocky character models and a minimal colour palette to convey its surroundings. Outside of the superb audio, the visuals also receive the same love and care. Luckily, the short adventure is a sweet one, with never a dull moment between levels. Past the high scores, Sayonara Wild Hearts remains a visual and audio showcase to any friends or family in your household. It’s slightly disappointing that further modes or incentive isn’t incorporated to keep players returning. Each level also features hidden collectibles for the eagle-eyed player to capture on their high speed gauntlet.Īs mentioned, Sayonara Wild Hearts is a short adventure, only clocking in around the one to two hour mark. While it would be easy to breeze through the adventure within an hour or two, the high scores provide further incentive to return. Each level is broken into bronze, silver and gold ranks – with the most expert of players reaching the latter. The score system is also another highlight to the overly addictive experience.
